    Dear Eastchester Families,

It is with great pride that I announce that Mr. Thomas Lehman will be joining the Eastchester staff on July 1, 2020 as the new K-12 Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Health.

Mr. Lehman earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Secondary Education and his Master of Science degree in Physical Education, as well as earning his SBL/SDL certifications from Queens College. Since 2017, Mr. Lehman has been the Assistant Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Health in the Harrison Central School District. Additionally, Mr. Lehman previously served as a physical education teacher, varsity coach, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at Long Island City High School in Queens from 2003-2017.

Based on the information compiled from our interview process, I believe that Mr. Lehman’s experience, interpersonal strengths, intellect, and passion make him an ideal choice for this position. His knowledge of best practices, desire to build a sense of community, and collaborative belief system will be a tremendous asset to the school district.

I hope you will all join me in welcoming Mr. Lehman when he begins on July 1.

    Respectfully,

    Scott Wynne
    Assistant Superintendent

    A letter from Mr. Karol

    Dear Eastchester Community,

It has been an absolute pleasure running the Athletic program at Eastchester over the past 8 years (and working in the district the past 12 years). I’ve had the opportunity to see our amazing athletes grow and succeed beyond measure. I’ve seen our community come together during the most exciting times, and also in the most challenging of times to support one another. This community and district has proven time and time again to be strong, supportive and resilient. I attribute these wonderful traits not only to the district, but to the wonderful parents and caregivers that I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know during my time here at Eastchester.

As a parent to two young boys, I’ve made the decision to step down as the Athletic Director at the end of this school year and resume my position as a Physical Education Teacher at Eastchester High School starting in September. This decision was not an easy one to make, but at this stage in my life my top priority is having time to spend with my sons - something I know, I can never get back. While it saddens me to step away from a position that has been so rewarding, it also excites me to resume teaching full-time and hopefully coaching once again, which have been passions of mine as long as I can remember. This transition will allow me to continue to be heavily involved in the school and engaged with our students while also allowing me this invaluable time with my two boys and wife.

I want to thank all of you for your help and support over the years and I look forward to continuing to work in this wonderful district for many years to come. We will be sure to keep everyone informed of the process when a new Athletic Director is chosen, at which time I will provide any support necessary to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.

    Sincerely,

    Jason Karol
    Athletic Director
